Years ago slate was the dominant roofing material and was imported from Wales. Over time, terracotta tiles imported from France gained popularity culminating in local production at the end of the 19th century. Terracotta Tiles added colour and were easy to lay. Tiles also allowed for increased ventilation for the roof space. Terracotta tiles are still very popular toady and can add quality a look to a home.Concrete Tiles were produced in more recent times and provide cost savings as well as an increasingly wide choice of colours and styles. Slating has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity and while carrying a premium price tag can add real value to a home, particularly heritage properties. |
