For outdoor structures such as verandahs, pergolas, gazebos, conservatories and the like, clear or translucent roofing is usually the preferred choice.
Choosing the most suitable roofing for your particular application can be most confusing. Roofing profiles vary too and can be broadly categorised as:
- Profiled roofing style which features a corrugated profile, rounded or squared off.
- Twin walled roofing style which appears flat on the top and bottom surfaces but is corrugated in between these flat surfaces to provide added insulation.
- Monolithic or solid style roofing which is a single roofing sheet of flat profile.
The main types of clear/translucent roofing are:
- Glass roofing which is often used on larger roof areas and those which are pitched, such as in conservatories.
- Polycarbonate roofing which is extremely popular nowadays for pergolas, decks and all outdoor areas. Polycarbonate roofign is extremely durable and carries impressive guarantees. The materials available vary in price, quality, maintenance and the amount of UV protection offered. These materials provide weather, glare and UV protection while allowing light to penetrate.
- Fibreglass roofing is an economical alternative for the roofing of outdoor structures and is available in a range of profiles and colours.
- PVC roofing too can be purchased in a range of profiles and colours and is suitable for roofing over all outdoor structures.
