When
planning lighting dont always opt for the central room light:
overhead
pendant lights suit other homes but are not as versatile in effect.
downlights
provide background lighting and an overall effect. Downlights, usually
halogen, can be used to effectively light under pelmets and cupboards
and shelves for an interesting effect.
wall
lights create mood lighting and a softer effect.
uplights
direct light to the ceiling which reduces glare and creates a soft
effect.
lighting
under pelmets or certain cornices can create subtle but effective
lighting.
lamps
create a special mood and a luxury effect. A lamp on a corner table
can be the feature of a room or alcove.
bathroom
lighting should receive special consideration. The mirror will need
illuminating well. The white light of halogen lighting is very successful
here. The lighting should be positioned in front of you and throw
light onto the face. Room lighting should be either recessed or
enclosed within a shade to resist the effect of steam.
