Cabinets can be finished in polyurethane, laminex, vacuum formed veneers, solid timber and various hand painted finishes. Cupboard and drawer faces can also feature panels of such materials as glass, mesh weave, lattice etc. Most finishes can be produced in gloss, satin and matt. Edges of doors can be square or rolled or can be finished in a feature product or colour.

Solid Timber doors are an age old favorite and are sealed with a polyurethane finish or oiled for ease of maintenance. The doors are very easy to clean as marks do not show easily but the surface may need to be recoated in time.

Timber veneers too are popular and the colour range is very wide. Different products are used for sealing the veneers, so inquire of your kitchen renovator about the options available. Hand painted are most popular nowadays and can be solid colours, ragged, limed, washed or combinations of these effects. A clear sealing coat should be added for wear.

Polyurethane finish is a two part paint finish which is sprayed on to surfaces such as cupboard doors. The finish can be in any chosen paint colour and can be in gloss, satin or matt. Polyurethane is very durable and is easy to keep clean. It can however chip but individual panels can be resprayed.

Vacuum formed doors are vinyl wrapped and heat shrunk. The finish is more economical than polyurethane and can be similar in appearance, although not quite as smooth. The finish is easy to keep clean and durable, although chips and scratches cannot easily be repaired.

Laminex doors are very popular for their range of colour, durability and ease of cleaning. Nowadays the laminex can be post formed creating a slightly curved edge to the cupboard doors.
