When you are constructing a picket fence it is a good idea to incorporate a letterbox into the fence design. Your fencing contractor will be able to take care of this for you.

Although letterboxes are often treated as an afterthought, many people like to choose an attractive letterbox which fits in with the style of fence or home. It is a good idea to allow plenty of room for large envelopes and perhaps a cylindrical area for newspapers so that nothing is left to blow away.

In your area there may be Council regulations regarding placement and sizing of letterboxes so it is wise to check with the Council if you feel the letterbox you have chosen may not comply. Some Councils require the letterbox to be about 900mm off the ground and as close to the building alignment as possible. If you are building a larger structure it cannot of course obstruct the clear view for entering or exiting traffic.
