Benchtops
for kitchens, laundries, bars and other areas are available in many
varied finishes. Here practicality should clearly be considered
equally with appearance when making the final choice. The pattern
and colour of the benchtop should fit into the overall theme but
should also be considered in the light of use and durability and
ease of daily maintenance.
The
edge finish on the benchtop is extremely important in establishing
the style. Square or 20mm pencil round edges look best with sleek,
modern styling. Double bullnose enhances the country style of kitchen
and adds a substantial quality look. In solid surfaces and granite
or marble other styles of edging can be most attractive. Brass or
aluminum strips can be inserted into the double granite edges but
ensure the choice coordinates with other finishes in the kitchen.
Tiled benchtops are often edged with a decorative edge tile whereas
solid timber benchtops look best with a plain, square or bullnosed
edge.
