Areas of limited size can be transformed with the use of allover colour and a co-ordinating border. The larger the area, the larger the tile should be, a number of small tiles in a large space can be overpowering. Glazed tiles are waterproof and do not require sealing but take care to ensure they are not too slippery when used on the floor. Tiles that prove to be slippery can be coated to overcome this problem. Your retailer can advise on suitable products. Unglazed tiles may be sealed to prevent staining and minimise maintenance.
If you are choosing a border tile for your bathroom or kitchen and require a flush finish ensure that the thickness of the border tile is compatible with the wall tile. This is particularly relevant if you are choosing a marble border as marble is thicker than a ceramic tile.
